Pressing us to pay further and was told will not start work until we pay. Currently seeking legal action against them. Pointless to seek Case and police. Police reports were made. They having a booth on this coming renovation fair at Expo, Classic Living 2012 (21/07/12-29/07/12).

After seeking clearance from his lawyer, jbooncho sent his story to Stomp (article is yet to be published as of to-date). Here is his full account:
Dear all, my wife and I have a very bad encounter with Millennium Lifestyle Pte Ltd for our house renovation. It has caused a messy situation for us to handle. The main contractors are Marvin Wong and Shirley Lee. Sub- contractor is Marvin Wong father company Max’s Image Design Studio Pte Ltd.
We have signed a renovation agreement with them and were told verbally that the completion date is 6 weeks after we have hand over the house to them. We hand over to them on 1st of April 2012 but till now only 8 out of 52 items were completed. They keep pressing us for payment although we have paid up to 80%. Of course I refused to pay them further. Even since, they have stopped all works.
We have no choice but to make police reports and last week our lawyer has issued letter of demand to them to start work within 7 days but they ignored the letter completely. The police will only investigate as a cheating case only if there is a 2nd victim lodging a police report against Millennium Lifestyle Pte Ltd.
In addition, we were told by the lawyer that if we insist to take them to court, it will cost us $5000 - $20K per day. Worst still if the company decides to wind up, we will get nothing back. Currently, Millennium Lifestyle Pte Ltd has an exhibition booth at this coming renovation fair at Expo, Classic Living 2012 (21/07/12-29/07/12).
Due to this painful and unforgettable lesson learnt, please consider carefully before signing any renovation agreement with any renovation firms. Do not be misled by the lowest quote and sweet talk. Do your homework before signing. Find out more from renovation forums and better still look for those recommended by relatives or friends. Do ask the ID/contractors to bring you to their completed projects before awarding the contract.
My bad and I didn't see this thread and many more on google before signing up. I have signed up for the TV console/feature wall and paid 50% (~$1500) but he is giving all the excuses so far and haven't started work since 13th Jul. For me, maybe I am lucky, the job is almost finally done after 5 months for a 5 rm HDB flat (excluding kitchen and floor tiling). But he did stop for a long time claiming that he was cheated in China, and are low in funds.
ReplyDeleteEnded up doing my apartment on his own w his wife, even though he promised to use sub contractors who are experts. End up my entire unit's work is badly done.
Well, initially I was forgiving and just accept it based on his situation. Guess what! He filed a small claims tribunal on me to claim $4k, when he just added items to the quote without consulting me. And there is still outstanding touch ups and toilet vanity to install.
Any one has advice on how to proceed? And yes, no matter how cheap. Always research on them, new company rather don't use and spare yourself the headache.
Latest updates, 4 out of 5 victims have awarded money order to be paid up by Millennium Lifestyle Pte Ltd by small claims tribunal Singapore. Total amount is around $25K. 5th victims are in the process of claiming Marvin Wong company, Millennium Lifestyle Pte Ltd. Claiming $10K as well. Once the dead line for them to pay up, we will proceed enforcement phase. All victims have called and sms Marvin Wong to pay up the money order but he simply ignore all of us. We might planning to meet our MP to see how to resolve this. We will take step by step to get back our hard earned money from them.

A lot of CON-MAN ID firms out there. Be careful. If you don't want to get cheated, don't pay anything more than 30% of full amount UNTIL they start work and bring in the materials. That way, even if they don't start you lose at most 30%.
ReplyDeleteMy ID firm wanted me to pay 70% before they start carpentry works and 90% once they start carpentry and before completion. I throw away their contract and stopped answering their calls.
Now managed to find a relative who is in the business. Gave me a 30% discount from the quote I received from the CON-MAN ID firm. Plus...I only paid 30% upfront...and the work is almost done in less than 3 weeks.
Lesson: Get close friends / relatives to do...don't anyhow choose from internet or exhibitions. High chance of getting cheated.
It is not only con-man ID problem , but in this reno industry many so-called reputable ID claim to be able to deliver good result always end up with lousy work done, many are inexperienced, bo chap attitude once they get ur business, they wont be bother to monitor the work.

ReplyDeleteHi, as i was furniture shopping at the recent fantasy furniture at expo, i happened to pass by inox luxe and was persuade to get quotes. Kesh and his wife was there and gave us the quotations. I am lucky i did not sign up with them as i have already engage another contractor that my friend recommended. Kesh ask me to show them the quotes i got and they insisted that the price is too low and unbelievable. Warning me to becareful and all. i guess i am relieve to see this website afterall.
